Gameplay: Raiden III (PC)

Today I show you Raiden III for PC released on GOG and Steam of this year.  The game was originally released for Arcade, PS2, PC, PS3 and mobile devices. Originally in North America the only way to play this game was on the PS2 back in 2007.  In Japan it was first released on the Arcade and shortly after ported to the PS2 and Windows PC.  In North America we didn't see it on PC until 2014 and it is a straight port of the Japanese release with English Translation.

The game is meant to be played on a Vertical Screen.  When playing it on a widescreen it will be played on a square dead center of the screen with black borders on the left and right.  It can be stretched but not to the full length of the screen.

There is a few minor parts in the video where you'll see video lag that is from the video capturing software not the game itself.

You can get the game at the following links:

Gameplay: Dead or Alive 2 (Dreamcast)

In this Gameplay video I show you Dead or Alive 2 for the Sega Dreamcast.  This is one of those games that really showed the power of the system.  A lot of people would say the Dreamcast is so old but the system really knew how to push the limits for a console made in 1999.

Gameplay: Capcom vs SNK 2 (Dreamcast)

In this Gameplay I show you Capcom vs SNK 2 for the Sega Dreamcast.  This is another title that did not get released in North America for the Sega Dreamcast.  However you can get this game in North America for the PS2 and an upgraded version called Capcom vs SNK 2 EO for the Xbox and Gamecube.

Of course I'd prefer to play this on a system that is best known for great Arcade games which is the Sega Dreamcast. Of course most ports came from Naomi (Arcade Unit)  which had similar hardware to the Sega Dreamcast.  Capcom vs SNK 2 is of course another game in the "vs" series of games.

This game includes 3 vs 3 and 1 vs 1 battle modes.  The difference between the PS2 and the Dreamcast version is that the Dreamcast version had Network play and the PS2 didn't.  Another difference and rumored on the net is the PS2 version was a bit faster and probably cause its hardware which is a bit better then the Dreamcast.  Well get ready for an action packed game which has a bit of difficulty but extremely fun and one of the greatest fighters ever.

*You do not need to understand Japanese to play this game.  The Japanese language only appears after each battle and some information text which is not needed for English readers.

Gameplay: Guilty Gear X (Dreamcast)

In this Gameplay I show you Guilty Gear X for the Sega Dreamcast.   This game was only released in Japan for the Sega Dreamcast.  In order for anybody to play the game in North America you could play it on the PS2 but there is nothing better then playing it on a system that was meant to play Arcade games.

The Dreamcast version came with a special mini disk with two bitmap wallpapers and one audio track.  To me the mini disk idea was kind of dumb cause the GD-Rom could play CDDA files no problem (though they didn't implement it) and other games included bitmap wallpapers right on the GD-Rom.  However the mini disk did look interesting to collectors including myself they were just rather useless.

*You do not need to understand Japanese to play this game.  The Japanese language only appears after each battle.

F-Zero GX (Dolphin Emulator, 60fps)

So a lot of people have been throwing out demonstration vids of games being played at 60fps cause of Youtube's implementation of being able to play videos at 60fps.  Sure a lot of these videos are pretty amazing but I don't think there is anything more amazing then playing or watching F-Zero GX in 60fps.  Prepare to puke and wonder how the hell anyone is able to play this game.  You can't play this game cause its one of the most difficult games ever.  Why do people play the game cause of the amazing graphics, the futuristic game play and cause its a Nintendo arcade classic.

Well I hope you enjoy the video but do be aware that there is some slow downs cause of the Dolphin Emulator and capture software.

Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Component Cables (Kickstarter)

I forgot to post this but this is good for anyone who owns an SNES or Sega Genesis. HD Retrovision LLC have made component cables which no doesn't make the system play in HD.  But what it does do is fix horrible picture bleed that composite or RCA cables give you and gives you a more clear picture.  I couldn't recommend this more to you and its been something i've been looking for, for awhile now.  Below is the kickstarter they are almost 90% funded if you'd like to make these cables a reality then click the link below and fund.

Ford Racing 3 Hi-Res Hack (Steam)

Well its not really a hack there is a configuration file for getting Ford Racing 3 to play in higher resolutions.  Of course though in order to do this you need Administrator access for setting it up and of course you need Administrator Access to play the game as well.  But with Administrator access active it destroys access to the Steam GUI.  Of course there is some minor warnings you'll have to watch out for and that is the HUD breaks in higher resolutions it was meant to be played in 640x480 so I suppose the game hates anything higher then it.  Who cares though cause in this game you won't really need to be looking at the HUD.  I do wish there was a way to turn the HUD off but there is no option for it.

Alright so first step is locating your Ford Racing 3 folder.  So locate where you have Steam installed then open the Steam folder, locate Steam Apps, then common, then you'll see Ford Racing 3.  Open Ford Racing 3 then go to CONFIG folder.

Next your going to want to right click on syscfg.exe and click "Run as Administrator".

When it opens go to the Display tab and select your default resolution the highest is always the best.

Next go to the Detail Level tab and checkmark everything in the left column and set model detail and visual range to high.

Alright now just press okay and were off to the next and final step.  This next step of course will be using Microsoft Compatibility Toolkit so that the game can open as it would normally without any Administrator action and you can use the Steam GUI as you normally would.

So what your going to need to do is open Microsoft Compatibility Administrator (x32). Then right click on New Database(1) [Untitled_1]* and select *Create New then Application Fix.

Type the name of the program you'll be editing, so just use Ford Racing 3.  It asks for the vendor but you can just leave that blank.  Then your going to want to search for the fr3.exe file from the Steam folder.

Once you have opened the fr3.exe file in the first window your going to want to checkmark *Run as Invoker

Then click next and checkmark *ForceDisplayMode

Then click next and press the *Auto Generate button and a bunch of stuff will load on the screen that is fine.

Next your going to want to *Save it and it will ask for Database Name just type in Ford Racing 3. Next your going to want to type in a name and save it to a folder of course I would just save this to the Ford Racing 3 folder.

Next your going to want to install the configuration.   So go to file at the upper left and then select install.

Now after that close the program, open Steam and run the game.  If you did everything correctly your game should look exactly like the screenshots below.  Don't forget the HUD is broken but everything else looks better then it did in 640x480 resolution.

DCeric Show - DCeric's How to... Install the Homebrew Channel (Wii)

So here it folks an easy method of getting The Homebrew Channel on the Wii.  In future videos i'll show you some homebrew and how to install some games.

Jim Power, Steam Greenlight (PC)

Jim Power was a popular action platformer released for Super Nintendo and PC back in the early 90's.  The game was being developed for the Sega Genesis however it never seen the light of day.  Somebody found a beta of the game that wasn't fully completed and it has been leaked to the web.  Only containing one playable song by Chris Hulsbeck and the game is able to be completed however it may contain bugs that might cause issues that enable you to do so.

Well its the year 2014 and Piko Interactive has some news for you.  They want to re-release Jim Power for a variety of systems.  The systems include Genesis, NES and even Steam for PC.  Also you'll be able to hear Chris Hulsbeck's full track catalog from the SNES version.  This game is right now on Greenlight for Steam which needs it votes before being released so click the link below to help get this game released on Steam.  Check out the awesome trailer for the game below

Meet The Genx Cardtroller : Bluetooth Game controller

Well somebody has done the impossible and I think this is bloody amazing never heard of anything like this before.  Okay so I guess you want to know what it is.  Well believe it or not its a cardtroller. If of course you still don't understand its a controller that looks like a credit card.  The cardtroller connects via Bluetooth connection.  The controller is compatible with Tablets, Mobile, and computers.

Of course the cardtroller has other features which include 64gb flash memory to put your games on so when your on the go your ready to go.  You can use a Micro USB cable to charge it up however I'm unsure if you can use it for a direct connection rather then using Bluetooth. Of course right now this is on Indiegogo so the creator needs some of your cash to mass produce it.  Lets make this happen visit the following link to make your pledge.

Dreamcast Poker Unreleased Homebrew (DC)

While searching on Google I came across a game called Dreamcast Poker.  Unfortunately the game didn't get passed alpha and was only available on Windows.  I opened the Poker.exe that is available on the site it looks like you couldn't even play a game it just shows a demo of what could have been I guess.  Kind of odd considering it was going to be a Dreamcast release unless it was going to be some sort of Terminal game.

The developer states in a readme file from the dcpoker-0.0.1.tar file

"(Matt Pruitt) This is the first realease of Dreamcast poker.  It doesn't actually run
on the dreamcast yet.  It's basically just going through a check to rate
the players hand.  It only checks player1's hand at this time, but it can
easily check all the other players hands."

I don't think you'll be hearing anything about this game considering the files were released in 2005 so I supposed the developer decided to drop this project.

Well if you want to check out the game you can get it at the link below however there is nothing playable.

World Gone Sour, Windows x64 fix (PC)

Well here is another game that needs to be fixed and I know it seems quite odd cause World Gone Sour was recently released in 2011.  Well even though some games will make you think they will work cause they were recently released there is a problem and that is that most games are x32.  The problem with some x32 bit games is they recommend you to manually disable multicores in order for the game to work cause if you didn't know already x32 works best with one core processors.

With all that being said World Gone Sour is one of those games that needs you to manually disable your cores.  So what you want to do is open the game and alt+tab out of your game.  Then press shift+esc and that will open Task Manager.  Then find the "Sour_ShippingWin32.exe" task and right click on it.

Then go to affinity and disable the last 5 cores only leaving the first.  Now you may have a Dual Core, Quad Core or Eight Core so for you guys you'll have to do the same just leave the first core enabled and disable the rest.

(UPDATE) You may also want to right click on the game in task manager again and go to Priority and select high.  This may make the game run faster.

There you go World Gone Sour is now fixed and the game shouldn't freeze and you should be able to beat the game.  Now I understand this game can be pretty cheap anywhere from 1 dollar to 5 dollars but I know that other games for that price are more playable then World Gone Sour.  The funny part of this is you wouldn't expect this from the publisher Capcom and I don't believe you'll get the support needed to fix the game so this is all you have.

You can get the game at this link: http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-WGS/world-gone-sour

(UPDATE): There is another easy method of setting it up so you don't have to keep opening taskmanager to set it manually.  You need to make a shortcut and right click on the shortcut and go to properties.  Once the properties has loaded paste the following text into the target.  Don't forget though you will probably have to change the location depending on where you have installed it.  For example I have mine installed on the D: drive so that is displayed below in the red.

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "World Gone Sour" /high /affinity 1 "D:\Program Files (x86)\World Gone Sour\Win32\Sour_ShippingWin32.exe"

How to play Wipeout XL on the latest versions of Windows (PC)

There is a lot of old titles that are hard to install on the latest versions of Windows mostly cause the games were encrypted to only run on x32 systems and now a days most computers are running on x64 systems.  Well here is another game Wipeout XL which is an amazing game and I figured out how to get this game to work with little to no hassle.  THERE IS ALSO A FIX FROM ANOTHER WEBSITE WHICH I WOULD SUGGEST CAUSE ITS A LOT EASIER.  THE FIX WILL ALSO WORK WITH WIPEOUT 2097 WHICH THIS GUIDE DOES NOT.

Lets begin the steps to get this amazing game to run on your current Windows operating system.

First your going to need Virtualbox and a x32 Windows operating system installed on it preferably Windows XP.  You then have to right click on the operating system and go to settings then shared folders. Click the + sign as seen in the screenshot below then select your local hard drive and select Auto Mount.  Do not select read only or you will be unable to write to it.

Once that is complete run the operating system and install the game to the designated C:program files\wipeout XL\ folder.  It won't matter where you install cause it has to be moved to your Local hard drive on your current OS.

Now in Virtualbox your hard drive that you mounted maybe a different letter and will probably look different then a local hard drive as pictured below.  My Local hard drive is Drive "C" but on Virtualbox it is mounted as F:.  But the wording obviously is fairly simple to understand "C_drive on 'vboxsrv' (F:)".

So go to the Local Disk (C:) where you installed the game on Virtualbox and drag over all the files with in the Wipeout XL folder and right click and copy. That is right do not copy the Wipeout XL folder just the files with in. Next go to C_drive on 'vboxsrv' (F:) and make a new folder called Wobble and in that folder paste all the files as shown in the screen shot below.  If you don't you may get an error like this "C:\Wobble\BLITSURF and so on missing files".

(Click the image to enlarge)

The next step you'll need to download a no cd crack I'm not going to tell you where to get one but the file should be identical to the wipeout2.exe file.  The reason we are doing this is the CD won't read. Just copy and paste over the original wipeout2.exe and if done correctly the file should open as seen in the screenshot below.

You may have to set some compatibility settings for the game but if the game runs fine then skip this. For those who couldn't get the game to run just right click on wipeout2.exe go to properties then go to compatibility and click "run as administrator" and choose Windows 95 as the OS.

Alright so the next step is selecting your resolution and after that hit play and your ready to go.  You should see the following loading screen.

Well if you followed the tutorial as shown you should be able to play the game no problem.  I hope you enjoyed reading this tutorial and I hope to have another one for you soon.

UPDATE: This may or may not work for you and if it doesn't you should visit https://bit.ly/2uFLnrh.  However their method of getting the game to run at 30 FPS might be a tad difficult but you'll be able to get Wipeout XL and Wipeout 2097 to work.  An easier frame rate fix is to get MSI Afterburner with Riva Tuner and use the Frame Limiter and set it to 30fps.  You can get MSI Afterburner from https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner which will come with Riva Tuner.

Realtek RTL8111 LAN driver fix for Linux/Ubuntu

Well I just setup a Ubuntu machine that i'm thinking about giving my sister.  But of course I ran into a problem which usually happens running a Linux operating system.  The Realtek RTL8111 LAN/Ethernet port would take way to long to connect or wouldn't connect at all.  So the following command comes from a user named praseodymium over at http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/lan-karte-funktioniert-nicht/#post-3005217 which looks like a German related Ubuntu Support site.

The following commands will help you resolve your issue if you have the Realtek RTL8111 LAN port which is on M2A-VM motherboards and possibly a few others.  Type the following commands one by one in the Terminal.

sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential dkms

wget http://r8168dl.appspot.com/files/r8168-8.038.00.tar.bz2

tar xvf r8168-8.038.00.tar.bz2 cd r8168-8.038.00/

sudo sh ./autorun.sh

Once complete you will be able to connect to the internet as soon as you login.

Safe Mode with Command Prompt (Windows 8/8.1)

I and many people have had issues trying to run safe mode on Windows 8/8.1.  Most people including myself have been told you have to do it within Windows 8/8.1 but sometimes that isn't possible cause you can't start up properly.  The most difficult option was to wait until the computer boots and wait for the bios screen to disappear and hold shift and press F8.  Now you may enter safe mode but I haven't ever got that to work.

Well what people didn't know is there is a simple way of getting into Safe Mode without having to go into Windows 8/8.1.  If you have a setup disk your ready to go.  When the system boots press "F8" so you can choose what medium you want to boot with.

Select your CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Rom and wait for Windows 8/8.1 setup to load.  Once you get to the screen to select your language press next.  You'll then be sent to another screen where you can either setup the operating system or repair your current Windows operating system.  Click repair and you'll be brought to another screen with repair options.  You'll want to select troubleshoot, then select advanced options.  After this select command prompt and type in the following.

First type "C:" without the quotations so you can enter the hard drive that Windows is installed on.

Then use the following commands for whatever options you prefer.

Safe Mode:
bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal

or

Safe Mode with Networking:
bcdedit /set {default} safeboot network

This will change the boot settings to force safe mode to fix whatever problems you need repaired. After your finished solving your problem right click near the start button and select run.  After that type in msconfig and select the boot tab and unclick Safe Mode.

So now you have solved your problem without having to refresh, or restore.

DCeric Play's: Duke Nukem 3D using eduke32 (PC)

Today DCeric Plays: Duke Nukem 3D using the eduke 32 mod.  It adds 3D textures giving the game a next gen feel.  This was requested by Chris Fleet.

Game available at:
http://www.gog.com/game/duke_nukem_3d_atomic_edition

Mod is available at:
http://www.eduke32.com/

To get hi-res textures you'll also need this:
http://hrp.duke4.net/download.php

*There is lag in the video this mod is heavy on CPU usage turning off disk cache may help with this during normal play.  Video Capture software may also cause lag as well.  I mentioned in this video Duke Nukem 3D was released in 1998 it was actually released in 1996.  Of course not all the secrets were found in this game play video but this was more about the mod then the actual game. Sorry what was not explained in the video and explained to me to begin with is you'll need the hi res texture pack available in the third link. Eduke32 just adds polymer textures to the characters.

*For better performance turn off models. Disk Cache can only be used if you have enough VRAM.  This was mentioned to me on Steam by a user named >M@tEolt;

How to Play Duke Nukem Manhattan Project in Higher Resolutions (PC,GOG)

I decided to get Duke Nukem Manhattan Project today and its a great looking game for a game that was released in 2002.  Of course there is one issue and that is that out of the box it doesn't support the selection of widescreen resolutions.  Of course there is a way to solve the problem and its quite easy.  Now this may work for other versions of the game but I did this using GOG so that is what I am using for this tutorial.

First your going to want to open the program.  When the launcher opens check mark "skip this dialog next time".  If you don't do this the game will save the settings selected from the launcher then of course you'll have to repeat the below step again.

Next step we gotta find the config.cfg file which by default should be located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Duke Nukem - Manhattan Project\duke\base".  Open config.cfg and once opened press and hold "ctrl" then press "f".  Search for uset r_mode and press okay.  Your going to want to change the following numbers from "640x480x32" to "1920x1080x32".

There you are finished that is it two steps that was easy right.  So now all you have to do is open the game and the game will no longer open the launcher and launch in the resolution you requested in the config file. But remember do not go to the graphics options and change anything or it may go back to its defaults.

You can get Duke Nukem Manhattan Project from the following link:

Elysian Shadows Kickstarter

I've been following the Elysian Shadows development for quite sometime before it was even mentioned of getting released on a variety of other consoles.  At first it was going to be a Dreamcast exclusive and I believe at one point maybe even a non-commercial game.  There has been so many changes since the early days which of course go back to the early 2000's.  They changed the graphics engine which has improved the overall outcome of what this game is going to bring to not only the Dreamcast but a variety of other consoles and PC.

Right now they are asking you through kickstarter to help them make their dreams come true and of course to make this game get into your hands.  They have over $50,000 of their $150,000 goal and I believe they'll get their goal with your help.

Check out their game at Kickstarter and put in a pledge to get other interesting stuff from team Elysian Shadows.

Put in your pledge here:

Bundle Stars and PC Gamer teamed up together and were releasing free games part of the "Build Your Free Steam Bundle".  Part of the bundle and the last game in the bundle to get released was Race 07 with GTR Evolution (DLC).  Its a pretty good collection and great to see available for free.  Race 07 though has more DLC which of course you'll want to take advantage of at some point to get more tracks and more cars to race with.  But that doesn't mean you can't get more tracks and cars by not getting the DLC cause the game also supports mods.

I searched the web looking for mods and came across a forum with a person who mentioned "http://www.weissbierbude.de/".  That of course is the website your going to want to go to get mods cause they offer an "auto updater" which auto installs mod tracks and cars.  Yes the website of course is from Germany but there is a translator so you can read it in English.  The software also is in both languages and is pretty easy to use.

The first thing your going to want to do is of course register to the site.  The reason for this of course is that the auto updater requires you to login each time to access the servers to get the mods.  The other reason is that sometimes the auto updater will ask you for a Game Ticket.  At first I had no clue what that was and it did take some searching but lucky I am here to help you with that.  To get a Game Ticket you'll have to log into the website and at the bottom left corner of the screen there will be the Game Ticket with four numbers. Put those numbers in the auto updater and the program will then start searching for cars and tracks you need.

To get the software you'll have to go to Weissbeirbude Auto Updater Download.  There you can download WBB Autoupdater 2.1.3 you'll have to also download Python-Interpreter and wx Python.  So first you'll want to extract WBB Autoupdater to a separate folder.  Then install Python-Interpreter and install wx Python by *Running as Administrator.

Once you have done all that go to the folder where you have extracted WBB Autoupdater 2.1.3 and run "weissbierbude_en.pyw".  It may take awhile to load if it doesn't load properly uninstall Python and wx Python and keep installing until it works.  "weissbierbude_en.pyw" will setup the software and once done you'll be ready to download your mods and tracks.

Once in game the tracks can be selected from the *add-ons tab at the top of the selection menu for selecting a level.  Your cars will be selectable depending on what car package you selected to use for your race and will have beer glasses beside them to notify you they are mods.  You can use the mods in any of the DLC expansion packs.

*Do take note that when running the game it may take awhile to load cause of how many mods it has to load.

Quake 3 Arena IOQUAKE engine

Well right after I posted the news about how to install Quake 3 Arena somebody had mentioned an engine called ioquake3.  Ioquake3 is a quicker and easier way of installing Quake 3 Arena and is more up to date.  The software also allows for some pretty amazing mods as well as hi-res hacks.  So I guess you all want to know how to get Quake 3 Arena to play in Hi-Res.  Well the tutorial starts now:

Step 1:  Get ioquake3 from www.ioquake3.org and download the engine as well as the data software. First install the engine before the data software it will warn you to do so if you install the data software first.

Step 2: Grab the pak0.pk3 file from the baseq3 folder either on your CD-Rom or from your Steam Apps folder.

Step 3: Copy and paste the file to the baseq3 folder which is located in the root of the ioquake3 folder.

You have now installed the game and you can begin playing the game without mods by clicking the ioquake3.x86.exe in the root of the ioquake3 folder.  But if you'd like to use the mods we will move on to the next steps.

Step 4: Your now going to want to download Metal-Tech v2.0 which will add texture replacements for icons for picks ups, weapon textures and more.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/metal-tech-v20-revolutions/news

Step 5: Next your going to want to install the Metal-Tech v2.0 mod.  I actually had to install it to a separate folder on my desktop.  All it does is install a single file called "pak_Metal-Tech v2.0 Final.pk3" that you'll then want to copy and paste into your baseq3 folder in which is located in the ioquake3 folder.

Step 6: Next your going to want to download the High-Resolution Creative Commons Texture Replacement Pack from: http://ioquake3.org/2010/08/24/high-resolution-creative-commons-texture-replacement-pack/. Then your going to want to extract the "xcsv_bq3hi-res.pk3" file to once again the baseq3 folder in the ioquake3 folder.

Step 7: Next your going to want to take total advantage of the mods you just installed and Quake 3 only supports low resolutions.  But an app called  Quake 3 Resolution Changer allows you to play the game in high resolutions.  So go to http://blog.obelisk.ro/2010/09/widescreen-resolution-quake-3-ioquake3.html and download it now. Then copy extract the Quake3ScreenResolution.exe file to the root of the ioquake3 folder.

Step 6: Next your going to want to open Quake3ScreenResolution.exe and choose your resolution whether it be 1920x1080 or in my case 1680x1050 and make sure fullscreen is checkmarked.  After that push "create profile shortcut on desktop" button.

Step 7: On your desktop click the "ioquake3 1680 x 1050" icon it may have different numbers in there and that of course is what you set your resolution at.  Once clicked you have successfully installed Quake 3 Arena with two replacement packs and a high resolution changer.

If done correctly you should have something that looks like the video below which was captured on Windows 8.1:
