Race 07 Mod Auto Updater (PC)

Bundle Stars and PC Gamer teamed up together and were releasing free games part of the "Build Your Free Steam Bundle".  Part of the bundle and the last game in the bundle to get released was Race 07 with GTR Evolution (DLC).  Its a pretty good collection and great to see available for free.  Race 07 though has more DLC which of course you'll want to take advantage of at some point to get more tracks and more cars to race with.  But that doesn't mean you can't get more tracks and cars by not getting the DLC cause the game also supports mods.

I searched the web looking for mods and came across a forum with a person who mentioned "http://www.weissbierbude.de/".  That of course is the website your going to want to go to get mods cause they offer an "auto updater" which auto installs mod tracks and cars.  Yes the website of course is from Germany but there is a translator so you can read it in English.  The software also is in both languages and is pretty easy to use.

The first thing your going to want to do is of course register to the site.  The reason for this of course is that the auto updater requires you to login each time to access the servers to get the mods.  The other reason is that sometimes the auto updater will ask you for a Game Ticket.  At first I had no clue what that was and it did take some searching but lucky I am here to help you with that.  To get a Game Ticket you'll have to log into the website and at the bottom left corner of the screen there will be the Game Ticket with four numbers. Put those numbers in the auto updater and the program will then start searching for cars and tracks you need.

To get the software you'll have to go to Weissbeirbude Auto Updater Download.  There you can download WBB Autoupdater 2.1.3 you'll have to also download Python-Interpreter and wx Python.  So first you'll want to extract WBB Autoupdater to a separate folder.  Then install Python-Interpreter and install wx Python by *Running as Administrator.

Once you have done all that go to the folder where you have extracted WBB Autoupdater 2.1.3 and run "weissbierbude_en.pyw".  It may take awhile to load if it doesn't load properly uninstall Python and wx Python and keep installing until it works.  "weissbierbude_en.pyw" will setup the software and once done you'll be ready to download your mods and tracks.

Once in game the tracks can be selected from the *add-ons tab at the top of the selection menu for selecting a level.  Your cars will be selectable depending on what car package you selected to use for your race and will have beer glasses beside them to notify you they are mods.  You can use the mods in any of the DLC expansion packs.

*Do take note that when running the game it may take awhile to load cause of how many mods it has to load.

Game and DLC are available at: http://store.steampowered.com/app/8600/

Quake 3 Arena IOQUAKE engine

Well right after I posted the news about how to install Quake 3 Arena somebody had mentioned an engine called ioquake3.  Ioquake3 is a quicker and easier way of installing Quake 3 Arena and is more up to date.  The software also allows for some pretty amazing mods as well as hi-res hacks.  So I guess you all want to know how to get Quake 3 Arena to play in Hi-Res.  Well the tutorial starts now:

Step 1:  Get ioquake3 from www.ioquake3.org and download the engine as well as the data software. First install the engine before the data software it will warn you to do so if you install the data software first.

Step 2: Grab the pak0.pk3 file from the baseq3 folder either on your CD-Rom or from your Steam Apps folder.

Step 3: Copy and paste the file to the baseq3 folder which is located in the root of the ioquake3 folder.

You have now installed the game and you can begin playing the game without mods by clicking the ioquake3.x86.exe in the root of the ioquake3 folder.  But if you'd like to use the mods we will move on to the next steps.

Step 4: Your now going to want to download Metal-Tech v2.0 which will add texture replacements for icons for picks ups, weapon textures and more.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/metal-tech-v20-revolutions/news

Step 5: Next your going to want to install the Metal-Tech v2.0 mod.  I actually had to install it to a separate folder on my desktop.  All it does is install a single file called "pak_Metal-Tech v2.0 Final.pk3" that you'll then want to copy and paste into your baseq3 folder in which is located in the ioquake3 folder.

Step 6: Next your going to want to download the High-Resolution Creative Commons Texture Replacement Pack from: http://ioquake3.org/2010/08/24/high-resolution-creative-commons-texture-replacement-pack/. Then your going to want to extract the "xcsv_bq3hi-res.pk3" file to once again the baseq3 folder in the ioquake3 folder.

Step 7: Next your going to want to take total advantage of the mods you just installed and Quake 3 only supports low resolutions.  But an app called  Quake 3 Resolution Changer allows you to play the game in high resolutions.  So go to http://blog.obelisk.ro/2010/09/widescreen-resolution-quake-3-ioquake3.html and download it now. Then copy extract the Quake3ScreenResolution.exe file to the root of the ioquake3 folder.

Step 6: Next your going to want to open Quake3ScreenResolution.exe and choose your resolution whether it be 1920x1080 or in my case 1680x1050 and make sure fullscreen is checkmarked.  After that push "create profile shortcut on desktop" button.

Step 7: On your desktop click the "ioquake3 1680 x 1050" icon it may have different numbers in there and that of course is what you set your resolution at.  Once clicked you have successfully installed Quake 3 Arena with two replacement packs and a high resolution changer.

If done correctly you should have something that looks like the video below which was captured on Windows 8.1:

Quake 3 Arena Install Fix Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1

Well once again we have another game that has incompatibilities with installing on newer versions of Windows.  I had no clue Quake 3 Arena would have issues but I most certainly had issues.  But once again comes a simple fix which is pretty much the same as the Quake 2 fix.  For me it took awhile for the setup to actually prompt could be a bug on my computer but still none the less this is a much easier fix.

Step 1: Open the Quake 3 Arena disk by right clicking on it and open it in a new window. Locate the Quake 3 folder.

Step 2: Drag the Quake 3 folder to a location on your hard drive.

Well there you go you have installed Quake 3 Arena on your Windows PC.

Quake 2 Install Fix for Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1

A lot of people know that old games can be such a nuisance to install on newer versions of Windows.  Well a part of that line of old games comes that great classic we know Quake II.  Funny Quake 1 installs without any issues but do to compatibility problems Quake II can't.  Well there is only one simple way to solve this issue.

Step 1:  Open the Quake II disk in a new Window by right clicking.  After that the window should open now we have to find the games install folder.

Step 2: Drag the Data folder to any location on your computer as seen in the screenshot below.

You have now successfully installed Quake 2 without the use of its bug ridden setup file.  You can enjoy the full benefits of the game and even save and load without any issues.

Playing Old Xbox Games Online

That is right its been about 4 years since Microsoft pulled the plug on Xbox Live for the first Xbox.  This meant no more playing games online including the popular Halo 2.  Until now that is XBConnect which actually has been around for quite sometime allows you to play our favorite old games online as long as they have System Link modes.  Which means yes Halo 2, Forza, and Rallisport 2 are still playable online with this method.  Another cool feature is Halo one is allowed to play with this method as well.  Halo when originally released on the Xbox didn't have Xbox Live nor an online muliplayer mode but does have a System Link mode.  So if your down for playing some Halo 2 online or other Xbox classics click the link below.  If you are using Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 click the tutorial on how to correctly get the software working with your system.  I'd like to thank my buddy Andrew for this information.

Manhunt *Fix for Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1

So I decided to buy Manhunt on Steam when there was a deal that nobody could pass on.  Before buying the game Steam states the game will not work on any other operating systems other then Windows XP. Steam is correct what initially happens is there is a bug at the first gate right at the beginning of the game that is supposed to open after beating down a thug.  But yup this gate will not open which brings the annoyance of the game not being playable.  That is of course until now a man by the name of A.J. Collins has made a patch which will now fix this issue.  The fix works on the CD-Rom version as well as the Steam version.

I recommend you get this patch at the following link: http://gzwn.net/manhuntpatcher/

Exceed - Gun Bullet Children (Steam Game Fix)

A lot of people are into SHMUPS and a lot of people are into the Exceed collection of games.  But there is one issue with this game and that's that it runs at 15fps or lower.  This makes the game so unplayable and feel like a waste of money.  Also Steam doesn't indicate the game has incompatibilities with Windows 8 or 8.1 and any other version of Windows.  Well I went my own route to try and solve this issue and make the game playable, for me the game runs at 76fps.  For others the game might run faster.  This fix may also work for other games in the Exceed game collection.

So of course what you'll need is the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit from:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39982

After is downloaded you'll then want to install it and select only *Application Compatibility and unclick everything else as it will be useless for this project.

Next open Administrator Compatibility (x32) that is right you won't be needing the (x64) as it won't work anyways.

Step 1: Right click on New Database (1) [Untitled_1] select *create new and then select *Application

Step 2: Next your going to want to name the program/game you are fixing you can ignore the Vendor name if you want if not just type in Saito Games and then browse for the game you are going to fix.

Step 3: In the compatibility modes select screen select the following as seen in the picture and scroll down and also select *Run As Invoker

Step 4: Select the following for Compatibility Fixes

Step 5: Just click *Auto Generate then next and your on to the next step

Step 6: After clicking finish now your going to want to *Save compatibility database so name it whatever you want then you can save the file to anywhere you want.  Just remember that its always best to save to the game folder so you can always go back and edit what you.  After that is completed go to *File and select *Install.

Okay so once you have installed you should be able to play the game at 76fps or more depending on how good your computer is.  It should at least be playable now unlike it was previously.  Here is a screenshot with the current fix and in the red circle how many frames the game is running.

(*NOTE) The game has issues with the Steam UI you could try and disable *Run As Invoker and that may solve your problem.

Saito Games Windows Fullscreen Compatibility Window Fix

I know this might seem strange for some but for others not so.  Anyways with some fairly old games from the early 2000's when a game is run in fullscreen it runs in a horrible compatibility window that cuts off parts of the screen.  Well most of the games in the Saito Games collection have this issue.  I have spoke to the developer closely but he doesn't have Windows 8 x64 so he is unsure of the issue.  That is fine I went my own route to solve this issue cause as gamer's we shouldn't be forced to play games in a stupid window.

Example 1:  See how the game has a window around it

Example 2: See with my fix how it completely removes that annoying window

Alright so in order for us to play the game in fullscreen without the window as seen in example 2 you'll need to get Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit from:  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39982

After downloading that software install it and select only Application Compatiblity and remove everything else.  That is all you'll need to get this working and of course selecting other things will take longer to install depending on your internet connection.

After installing open Administrator Compatibility (x32) that is right the (x64) version will not work for this game so do not select it.

Step 1: Right click on New Database (1) [Untitled_1] select *create new and then select *Application

Step 2: Next your going to want to name the program/game you are fixing you can ignore the Vendor name if you want if not just type in Saito Games and then browse for the game you are going to fix.

Step 3: Ignore the first window for Compatibility Modes and just click next cause what we need is Compatibility Fixes and all your going to need to select is *Force Display Mode

Step 4: Just click *Auto Generate then next and your on to the next step

Step 5: After clicking finish now your going to want to *Save compatibility database so name it whatever you want then you can save the file to anywhere you want.  Just remember that its always best to save to the game folder so you can always go back and edit what you.  After that is completed go to *File and select *Install.

Once installed you should be able to play Troy 2000 in Fullscreen without a window around it.  This will work for other games in the Saito Games collection.  For games like Mage Bros. and Hopmon you'll have to select the following fixes to improve performance.

Both Hopmon and Mage Bros. are best played in 640x480 resolution also to get more of a performance boost while playing the game click the *Windows Key.  That will then send you either to your Metro screen or your desktop but the game will still be opened.  Click on the icon for Mage Bros. or Hopmon and your game will then be playable at 25fps up instead of 15fps.

So if you followed the steps correctly you should now be able to play your favorite Saito Games without any issues.

Bomberman Collection Windows x64 Compatibility Fix

A little while ago I posted a fix for Bomberman Collection which I thought were patches.  But I found out that the software I was using which was Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit is a more advanced version of Windows Compatibility.  It actually has solved most of my issues with many games that had issues with slow downs and also ran in that horrible compatibility window.  But do note that these settings may not work for every game and others may need more settings to get working.

So now I want to show you how to fix Bomberman Collection with Compatibility Administrator (x32).  That is right you'll have to use the x32 version for the game it will not work under x64 program.  Also you will have to do this 3x for the 3 independent game files for the Bomberman, Bomberman 93 and Bomberman World cause they aren't in one file but don't worry its extremely easy.

Grab Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39982

From the install screen select *Application Compatibility and remove everything else that is check marked and click next.  It will then install the software need to fix your game.

First right click New Database(1) Untitled 1 and select *Create New then select *Application Fix

Second name the program that needs to be fixed you can ignore naming the vendor and then browse to your Bomberman Collection folder and selecting one of three bomb.exe, bomb93.exe or bombps.exe but do remember your going to have to do this method to all of them.

Third we are where your going to select some fixes for the game and you'll only have to choose one on this page and that is *Run as Invoker.  This is so the game doesn't require administrator privileges which at times can cause issues for certain games.

Fourth after selecting Run As Invoker click next and the select the following seen in the image below

Fifth just select *Auto Generate the inner window should expand and look like this

Sixth next your going to want to *Save the settings as seen in the image below and type a name.  It will then ask where you want to save it.  Usually I have them in the games folder so if I need to fix settings for certain games I know where to find them.  It can also be named whatever you want.

Seventh and final step your going to want to install this compatibility so click *File and then select *Install

Okay so that is now complete there is one more fix that will come essential for Bomberman World and that is to register Indeo Video codec.  You'll probably have to download the Indeo Codec or FFDSHOW and use the information below for guidance:

"open a 'command prompt' using a rightclick, select, 'Run as Administrtor'
type: cd C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (32bit users can skip this step) - press enter
type: regsvr32 ir50_32.dll - press enter"

So now you'll be able to watch the videos in Bomberman World and you will also be able to play all of your Bomberman Games at above 30fps instead of 15fps but again don't forget you'll have to do this 3x cause the games are in 3 independent files.

Crimzon Clover (SHMUP, 2014)

Well lately I have been getting into SHMUPS to make use of my awesome TATE screen.  Its the only way to really enjoy SHMUPS and bring back those memories of playing the SHMUPS genre at the Arcades. Well this is Crimzon Clover World Ignition and you'll feel right at home with it.  Yes its a bullet hell game but this is one of those games that even beginners can enjoy.  The game also features 2 player local play.  The game just got a recent update that fixed its issues with setting resolutions in fullscreen.  The game can now be played in full screen Tate for those who have had the issues.  The above video doesn't show the full frame.

Mage Bros. Boss Battles World 3 and World 4

So I'm a big fan of indie games and I think I'd like to throw another game out there that some may have never heard of.  This game is called Mage Bros. which was created by Saito Games.  The game is a side scrolling action adventure platformer.  You use magic to destroy enemies which drop coins for you to collect so you can upgrade your magic skills, weapon and health.  Your main objective though is to light torches in each level which is no easy task.  At the end of each world you will then battle a boss which get more difficult in worlds 3 and 4 and that is why today I bring you the boss battles from both of those worlds.
