How to Activate Windows XP (PC)

If you installed Windows XP on a old computer or installed it on Virtual Box or VMware you'll need to do this trick to activate Windows XP on your machine.  The servers to activate Windows XP have since been shutdown.

A lot of this tutorial has been helped by using Ray Woodcocks Latest Word Press.  I of course just wanted to get the word out and make it simple for the user.

So first your going to want to open Notepad on your Windows XP machine or Virtual OS.

Paste in the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents]
; Original setting:
; "OOBETimer"=hex:eb,54,8c,c6,0e,45,17,59,55,5b,f4,30

Then after that save the file as Activate Windows XP.reg to your desktop. Make sure its not a .txt by selecting "all files" in the save options.

After you have saved the file double click it and the file should then be registered.

After that click run and type regedit and press enter.

Then Regedit should open look for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents"

Right click on the WPAEvents folder and go to Permission then select System and Deny Full Control.  Press okay exit that and then open Command Prompt and type in the following:

%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a (or simply oobe/msoobe /a)

Then press enter and it should say Windows is now Activated

Now the system should be fully activated just click on those special little keys and press to activate and it should say Windows is now Activated.
